Arsenal climbed to second place in the Premier League after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners came from behind to claim their fifth Premier League double over Spurs, securing three crucial points in their pursuit of league leaders Liverpool.

Heading into this North London Derby, Arsenal were eager to bounce back after consecutive cup defeats against Newcastle United and Manchester United. Questions about their ability to challenge for major trophies had resurfaced, and this clash provided a timely opportunity to reignite their title charge.

For Tottenham, the narrative was starkly different. Ange Postecoglou’s side entered the game 16 points behind their fierce rivals, with little more than pride to play for as their inconsistent form dragged them down to mid-table obscurity.

Arsenal began the match with early dominance, putting the Spurs defense under pressure. Leandro Trossard came close to opening the scoring, only to see his effort blocked by Radu Drăgușin. Meanwhile, Tottenham’s debutant goalkeeper Antonín Kinský had a shaky start, with Kai Havertz nearly capitalizing on a misplaced clearance before Kinský recovered.

Despite Arsenal’s initial control, Tottenham started to grow into the game. Dejan Kulusevski forced a strong save from David Raya, signaling Spurs’ intent. The visitors then struck first, as Son Heung-min found the net following a corner. A deflection helped the ball past Raya, momentarily silencing the Emirates crowd.

Arsenal responded with determination, and their equalizer came soon after. Gabriel Magalhães met Declan Rice’s corner with a powerful header that deflected off Dominic Solanke, leaving Kinský unable to keep it out at his near post.

The Gunners weren’t done yet. Just before halftime, Trossard completed the comeback with an angled shot that slipped through Kinský’s grasp and into the far corner, sending the home fans into raptures.

In the second half, Arsenal pushed to extend their lead. Havertz missed a clear chance, heading wide from Martin Ødegaard’s corner, and later fired a shot straight at Kinský. Declan Rice also came close after slicing through Tottenham’s defense, but his effort was stopped by the Spurs goalkeeper.

Martin Ødegaard had a golden opportunity to put the game beyond reach after being set up by Kieran Tierney, but the Norwegian’s shot from inside the box went agonizingly wide.

Despite these missed chances, Arsenal held firm to secure a narrow but deserved victory. The result brought them within four points of league leaders Liverpool, though Arsenal have played one more match than Jürgen Klopp’s side.

This win also marked Arsenal’s third consecutive Premier League North London Derby victory—a streak they haven’t achieved since their dominant run between 1987 and 1989.

For Tottenham, the defeat further deepens their woes. With only one win in their last nine league games, Spurs now sit in 13th place, far removed from the top-half battles they might have hoped for earlier in the season.
